Major Problems in Malaysian Agriculture

Like all agricultural areas, Malaysia has a few problems in the agricultural sector. The main problems are health issues among workers, relatively low growth rate of the agriculture sector, and the expense of inputs like NPK fertilizers.

Like many developing countries, Malaysian farm workers live in rural, underdeveloped parts of the country. These areas have people with extremely large families. This families live in overcrowded housing, they lack access to clean water, have little or no sanitary sewer systems, and live in substandard housing. It’s not surprising that disease such as cholera, dysentery and typhoid are commonplace.

Further, the agriculture sector is growing at a slower rate than the rest of the economy. Commercial growers and farmers are reluctant to employ new agricultural equipment and new ideas because of increased costs.

Agriculture is important in all 13 states in Malaysia; Johor Darul Tazim, Kedah Darul Aman, Kelantan Darul Naim, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan Darul Khusus, Pahang Darul Makmur, Penang, Perak Darul Ridzuan, Perlis Indera Kayangan, Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor Darul Ehsan, Terengganu Darul Iman, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, Putrajaya.

Finally, like all agricultural areas there are concerns about the ever increasing costs of inputs, like NPK. These inputs become more expensive time. And worn out fields and worn out soils require additional inputs. Agricultural wastes, like palm oil wastewater are an issue as well.

Biofertilizers in Malaysia Agriculture

Biofertilizers are living microorganisms, generally beneficial bacteria and beneficial Trichoderma fungi,  that help plants utilize nutrients more efficiently. Malaysian agriculture and Malaysian farmers would greatly benefit from the use of bio fertilizer. Used properly, biofertilizers have been shown to be very cost effective for farmers and agricultural concerns.
